James has attended the official opening of King's Lynn Mart 2022 after a year of absence due to Covid-19
The Mart in King's Lynn was officially opened by the Mayor of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, Cllr Harry Humphrey on Saturday 12 February 2022.
On arrival at the Mart and gathering at the fair in front of a crowd of onlookers, at midday a bell was rung three times by a mayor's cadet.
Prayers were led by Reverend Canon Mark Dimond for the Showmen's Guild who prayed for the safety of all and for the people of King's Lynn to be enriched and contented at the Mart. With the proclamation being read by Cllr. Graham Middleton, Deputy Leader of the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk.
Watch the opening above, it starts with a procession from King's Lynn Town Hall that finishes at The Mart in the Tuesday Market Place. Prayers were said, the proclamation read, an address given by the mayor and there was a response from the Showmen's Guild to officially open the 2022 King's Lynn Mart.
The 817th Kings Lynn Mart which runs until the 26th February 2022 includes the same traditional rides and stalls as well as new rides called the Tornado, Over the Falls and the Fighter, which is a smaller version of the popular ride, Extreme. The ‘Booster’ pendulum ride will be back, as will the ride he calls the ‘Crazy Shake’ after it was introduced ‘with success last year’. For two whole weeks from Valentines day, the town will see thousands of people come and experience all the fun of the showman’s travelling fair. The mart is still due to be held at the Tuesday Market place.
Children’s Day, in which all rides are reduced to £1 except for the Booster, dodgems and cars, will be taking place on 14 February of half-term
