The week beginning 18th November marked UK Parliament Week 2024, a nationwide initiative to raise awareness of the UK Parliament and engage local communities in the country’s democratic process.
Marking the occasion in his own constituency of North West Norfolk, James visited two local schools, who had signed up, to hear the voices of younger generations, and also teaching staff, to promote understanding of the nature of his Parliamentary work.
In his first visit to St. Clement’s High School, James met with the school’s Student Council, for a lively discussion on a range of political issues. The students showed keen interest, sharing their thoughts on school policies to vaping, proposing their own solutions.
Later, James Wild took a trip Fairstead Primary School, to meet with Year 4 students who had proactively written to him about environmental challenges. Following up on these issues raised in their letter, students posed questions from “how do we stop climate change?” to curiously, “what is it like in the Houses of Parliament?”.
Reflecting on his visits, James Wild MP said:
"I thoroughly enjoyed visiting St. Clement’s High and Fairstead Primary for UK Parliament Week, and engaging with their students, whose thoughtful questions on issues such as climate change and the role of MPs reflected a strong interest in how politics shapes their lives. As the future of this country, it’s crucial our young people are involved, and their voices are heard. As Member of Parliament, I take great pride in facilitating this wherever possible.”
Having already visited over 40 local schools, both visits built on James’ ongoing campaign to connect with local schools, and best understand how to support and tailor to their unique needs.
