James Wild MP discusses local concerns with West Walton Parish Council
James Wild MP for North West Norfolk, met parish council members in West Walton to discuss important local issues including planning and pylons.
During James’ meeting, residents raised concerns about the borough council’s plans to have more traveller sites in the area and the impact this would have on residents and local infrastructure. The plans are being considered as part of the ongoing Local Plan scrutiny process.
Another concern residents raised are the plans for pylons and new sub-stations which National Grid is consulting on. Under current proposals, 90 miles of new, high-voltage electricity transmission line would be constructed along with a new substation, near the existing substation located at Walpole. This would consist of a 50-metre-high pylon every 300 metres.
James has often highlighted his concerns for both local residents and the environment in Parliament, arguing for alternatives such as underground or offshore options which would lessen the visual impact, environmental effect, and disruption to communities.
In addition, James also spoke to residents about the Wisbech incinerator that was given an Environmental Permit during the general election campaign.
