Following the announcement that Norfolk has been selected for the Government's Devolution Priority Programme, the Department for Housing, Communities, and Local Government has launched a public consultation to gather views on the proposal to establish a Mayoral Combined County Authority for Norfolk and Suffolk.
It includes questions on the proposed geography and how the Combined County Authority will make decisions, together with questions on the effects of working across this geography through a Mayoral Combined County Authority.
Commenting on the devolution plans, James said:
“After the government's scrapping of the previous Norfolk deal, the government has now provided clarity Norfolk is now a priority area for devolution which offers significant potential.
It's crucial local councils now work collectively to shape a deal that benefits our community.
While we aim for growth and efficiency, it is vital any new arrangements do not become remote from the people they serve and proposals allow local residents to voice their opinions. So I encourage local people to respond with their views to this consultation.
I will continue engaging with councils, businesses, and residents to ensure Norfolk has a devolution deal that drives prosperity and is accountable to those it represents."
The consultation runs from 17th February to 13th April 2025. To have your say, please follow the link below:
