During Energy Security and Net Zero questions, James Wild MP raised concerns with the Minister regarding the lasting impact of the Labour Government’s decision to cut Winter Fuel Payments, which provide up to £300 in support to pensioners.
Following the Government’s budget decision to transfer the Mineworkers' Pension Scheme Investment Reserve to its members, James acknowledged that it may be welcomed by some - but pointed out that it will nonetheless be significantly overshadowed by its previous decision to withdraw Winter Fuel Payments. The cut to these essential payments leaves many pensioners, particularly in vulnerable situations, facing increased financial strain during the colder months.

“I am sure that any of my constituents who stand to benefit from this increase will welcome it, but how many members of the mineworkers’ pension scheme will be losing out on winter fuel payments worth up to £300 due to the decisions that this Government have taken?”
