Ahead of Remembrance Sunday, James Wild MP joined volunteers in a busy morning at the Hardwick Tesco in King’s Lynn to raise awareness and funds for the Royal British Legion’s Annual Poppy Appeal.
He met Paul Giles from the local Royal British Legion who organises the annual collections and spoke to constituents supporting this important cause which has raised thousands of pounds locally.
This week James then placed a cross in the third Constituency Garden of Remembrance set up by the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP,
which contains a stake representing each of the 650 constituencies of the United Kingdom.
James Wild MP said:
"North West Norfolk has a strong veterans community and I was pleased to join volunteers to support the Poppy Appeal and see the local backing for those who serve and have served in our Armed Forces to defend our freedoms and our way of life.
The Royal British Legion, the Bridge for Heroes, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, along with other charities play a vital role in supporting veterans and their families locally.
I was proud to place this cross to recognise the service and sacrifice of people from West Norfolk on behalf of my constituents.”
As a former Special Advisor to the Ministry of Defence, and as a member of the Armed Forces Parliamentary scheme, James has made great efforts throughout his career to champion armed forces communities.
Parliament played a pivotal role in the establishment of our nation’s Remembrance traditions following the end of the First World War.
In 1919 Parliament with the support of King George V instituted Britain’s first Remembrance Day on the 11th of November,.
