On Friday, February 7, James Wild MP visited Marshland High School and West Walton Primary School, which are now in the North West Norfolk constituency following boundary changes at the general election. He has now visited over 40 local schools.
At Marshland High, Headteacher Craig Jansen outlined key issues including attendance and SEND and James discussed how he could support the school through his parliamentary work. He also welcomed its strong academic performance - ranking in the top 20% nationally - and diverse extracurricular programme, which includes music, drama , and international trips to New York, Nepal, Barcelona, Japan, and Florida.
Touring the school, James had joined classes including a thought provoking debate on Just War Theory, lung strength testing in PE, and printmaking in art before joining a Q&A with citizenship students to discuss his role, political engagement, and importantly, to hear from the students about the issues most affecting young people, and how their voices can be better represented.
At West Walton Primary, also rated 'Good' in its latest Ofsted inspection, James was welcomed by Head of School Caraline Lock and given a tour by the Head Boy and Head Girl. He visited the nursery, observed phonics, and PE lessons, and took the time to read proudly written short stories by students. The visit ended with a vibrant and curious Q&A, covering topics from work-life balance to whether James had met the Prime Minister.
Reflecting on the visits, James Wild MP said:
"It was a pleasure to visit Marshland High and West Walton Primary and see the dedication of staff and the enthusiasm of pupils
As part of my focus on better educational outcomes, it is important to spend time in schools to understand the issues that matter most and how I can support their success."
