On Tuesday 19th November, James Wild MP spoke to BBC Radio Norfolk about the new Government's changes to Agricultural Property Relief (APR), and increases in Inheritance Tax.
This ties into James' role as a Shadow Treasury Minister, as much of his focus will be on holding the new government to account following their recent Autumn Budget announcement.
Since the Budget announcement, James has worked with local farmers and the National Farmers' Union to urge the Government to rethink and withdraw their plans.
Speaking to the BBC, James Wild MP said:
"I've been contacted by a number of farmers who are worried about what this will mean in terms of the breakup of their farm. The return they get is not sufficient to be able to pay the level of inheritance tax that Labour's proposals would mean.
It's really a broken promise because before the election, Labour, the Prime Minister, repeatedly told farmers, told farming unions, they wouldn't bring these changes, and then they've just done it in the Budget without any consultation or trying to work out how to do this in the most effective way."
