James has welcomed new investment in improve the sewage network in the Creakes and £1.5 million to upgrade Burnham Market Water Recycling Centre (WRC) in response to the flooding last winter.
James spent time meeting with residents in the Burnhams, Creakes, and other parts of the constituency last year following flooding of properties and streets. He called on Anglian Water to conduct surveys following the floods to identify if water was infiltrating its sewer network, in addition to rainwater coming down streets drains, as well as considering whether other infrastructure could cope with demands.
Anglian Water has now announced this it is investing £1.5million to upgrade Burnham Market Water Recycling Centre (WRC) to help the site cope with additional flows before the site uses storm tanks and reduce the likelihood of flooding during heavy rainfall. It will also help the WRC meet new Environment Agency permit requirements, improving the overall environmental impact in the catchment and the receiving water course. James has been assured that this work will not be disruptive to the local community and we aim to finish by August this year.
North & South Creake
Anglian Water completed a sewer re-lining scheme in North and South Creake before Christmas. This work involved inserting lining material into the existing sewer to prevent ground or surface water infiltration – in essence creating a new sewer within the existing sewer. The lining will not impact the capacity of the sewer or affect flow rates, but will hopefully reduce infiltration significantly ahead of the wetter seasons.
Burnham Thorpe
Anglian Water conducted CCTV survey work on the sewers in Burnham Thorpe between 21st February and 4th March to help detect water infiltration into the foul sewer network and impacts on the pumping station. Results from these surveys will indicate what subsequent work may be needed on the sewer network.
Anglian Water expects that the sewers and the WRC will operate as efficiently as possible to help reduce the likelihood of flooding events impacting our system and affecting the residents in the Creakes and Burnhams.
