Crane Garden Buildings, a Norfolk-based family-run company has celebrated its 50th anniversary by revealing its largest-ever investment.
Crane Garden Buildings was founded in 1974 by David and Linda Crane and has grown to become the UK's leading supplier of high-quality garden buildings. Based in Narford, the company is now run by their sons; James and Nick Crane.
To celebrate hitting the 50-year milestone, the company held an event in conjunction with National Manufacturing Day at its headquarters, using the opportunity to formally reveal a new state-of-the-art robotic spray line.
The installation has been in the works for several years and has been described as the largest investment the company has made in its long history.
Alongside staff, sponsors, and charity partners, several special guests were welcomed to celebrate the launch, including Councillor Paul Bland (Mayor of King’s Lynn), Councillor Alistair Beales (Leader at the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk), James Wild (Conservative MP for North West Norfolk), Jack Weaver (Chief Operating Officer at the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce), and Councillor Paul Darby (Swaffham Local Council Leader).
James Crane, Owner of Crane Garden Buildings, said:
“It’s a proud moment for all of us. Many people have been part of this journey with us, and the anniversary is a chance to celebrate their contributions.
“We’re not just surviving; we’re thriving. As a growing company, we're looking ahead to the next 50 years. We’ve learned so much about this industry, and now we’re using that knowledge to ensure we remain a profitable, planet- and people-first company.”
On revealing the company’s multi-million-pound investment, he added: “It’s the biggest investment we've ever made, without question. It represents our commitment to growth and quality for the future.
“I’m extremely pleased, especially for our people. We are, and always have been, a people-first company. The fact that we’re eliminating half a million manual lifts each year means we’re safeguarding the health of our employees. That’s the biggest win. Beyond that, the quality of our buildings is better than ever, which sets us apart in a crowded market.
“It also sets us up for the future, allowing for steady growth of around 10% per year over the next decade, without needing more physical space.”
Speaking after the visit James Wild MP stated:
"I was pleased to join the 50th anniversary celebration of Crane Garden Buildings and mark the remarkable journey of this family-run business," stated James Wild, MP for North West Norfolk.
“They have been a mainstay of our local economy for fifty years, supplying the community with high-quality goods and job opportunities. This significant new investment in state-of-the-art robotics demonstrates their dedication to innovation and underscores their goal of staying at the forefront of their industry benefiting our local economy.
“Crane Garden Buildings is an impressive company also committed to supporting local charities and it was a pleasure to meet one of their partner’s, Norfolk Blood Bikes, who do such important volunteer-led work.”
Councillor Paul Bland, the Mayor of the Borough of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, said:
“It is a great privilege to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Crane Garden Buildings, a family-run business that has become a cornerstone of our local community. Reaching such a significant milestone is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence.
“What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the company’s continued drive to innovate and invest in its future. The unveiling of their new multi-million-pound robotics line demonstrates Crane Garden Buildings’ forward-thinking approach and their dedication to sustaining growth and creating opportunities in our region.
“I am proud to witness this local success story as it embarks on its next exciting chapter.”
