James recently co-signed a letter to the National Energy System Operator and Energy Minister, Ed Miliband to call for transparency on new grid infrastructure.
As an MP representing a rural area, James has expressed concerns on the potential impact of pylons on the local community. The plans for 90 miles of pylons from Lincolnshire to North West Norfolk and new substations are strongly opposed by local community.
This letter urges the National Energy System Operator and Energy Minister to reconsider the use of underground cables and offshore options, calling for increased collaboration and consultation to find more suitable ways to reinforce the grid while ensuring that consumers and the countryside are protected. Please see attached a copy of the letter James has signed.
James has previously raised these concerned with the Secretary of State and urged him to commit to a review of network technologies and consider a presumption in favour of underground or offshore proposals.
Speaking on the proposed plans, James stated:
“There are major concerns across west Norfolk about the proposals. People are rightly opposed to the damaging impact on our communities, countryside and farmland. The plans cannot be the final answer; they must be changed.”
