James is delighted that the Purfleet Trust in King's Lynn has received a government grant worth £59,600 to tackle local rough sleeping.
The government have announced new funding for frontline charities providing support to rough sleepers during the pandemic. Over 130 charities are set to benefit from £6 million of government funding to allow them to continue their work supporting the homeless through this difficult time after a bidding process managed independently by Homeless Link. The generous new investment builds on existing government efforts to support rough sleepers into long-term accommodation, with more than 15,000 helped off streets during pandemic.
James said -
I am delighted that the Purfleet Trust have been recognised in this way. Paula, and all the team including volunteers have worked hard throughout the pandemic to ensure homeless people were helped off the streets and kept safe.
This money means they can continue that vital work and help people to turn their lives around.
Since the introduction of the new government Coronavirus guidelines, the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk have worked intensively alongside local organisations like the Purfleet Trust, hotels, and others to move those rough sleeping and street homeless into emergency accommodation. The charity have also been able to provide hot meals, toiletries and outreach welfare and support services to every individual, 7 days a week during the pandemic thanks to the help of local volunteer efforts.
